Modular KVM-Extender

Not off the rack: new digital KVM extender from Black Box

Configure the ServSwitch DKM Modular Extender in four easy steps according to your requirements

Hallbergmoos, October 12, 2011 – The ServSwitch DKM from Black Box, the IT and communications specialist, can now be customized to meet individual needs. Depending on the requirement, up to 21 slots are available that can be equipped with transmitter or receiver modules. With this modular principle, loss-free KVM extensions with resolutions of up to 2048x1152 over the full distance of 140 meters maximum (for CATx cables) or 10 kilometers (for single-mode fiber) are possible.

Thanks to the modular design, the ServSwitch DKM Modular Extender can be configured in four easy steps: the base module has one DVI-D video and two USB HID interfaces which enable routing of digital video signals together with keyboard and mouse (USB HID) over both CATx and optical fiber cables. In the next step, the extension modules are selected: up to two additional peripheral signals per base module can thus be transmitted together over the same link. The corresponding housing is then determined depending on the desired number of interface cards. If possible, additional free slots should be incorporated, though, to facilitate future expansions. In addition, the client can decide between options with or without redundant power supply. Finally, experts from Black Box check whether the thus assembled extender meets the client’s requirements and whether the design is plausible. With modular extenders assembled that way, almost any industrial-suited control channel extensions in point-to-point mode can be installed, as well as freely interconnected with the tried and tested switch matrices ServSwitch DKM and DKM FX.

“Our modules are equipped with numerous peripheral interfaces, such as USB HID, USB 2.0, RS232, as well as analog and digital audio, and support VGA and SDI as well as many other analog video formats,“ Axel Bürger, Managing Director of Black Box Deutschland GmbH, explains. “Devices that exactly meet the requirements of their users can thus be configured. The possibilities for their use are therefore almost unlimited: from broadcasting to digital signage to control stations, the ServSwitch is ideal for sending, distributing, switching and mixing digital content.“
